Background

Since March 2020, income-generating activity for artists has been cut off or

significantly altered dueto COVID-19. The South Jersey Artist & History

Professional COVID Relief Grant, made possible with funding from the New

Jersey Arts & Culture Recovery Fund, is meant to offer relief for artists and

history professionals whose anticipated income has been cut short due to the

COVID-19 pandemic.


Summary of Eligibility

This grant is for working artists who have/ have had a marketable presence as an artist. Eligible

artists must be South Jersey residents who are 18 years or older and live in our eight-county

region comprised of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean,

Salem Counties. For this relief grant, we prioritize grant awards to historically excluded and

oppressed communities, specifically, those who self-identify as Black, LatinX, Asian Pacific

Islander, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color, LGBTQ+, or a Person with a Disability.

The South Jersey Artist & History Professional COVID Relief Grant will be competitive. The time

and date of submission of your application determine its place in the review cycle. SJCA Staff

and committee will not be held responsible for an applicant's submission date or the lateness of

any submission.


• Staff will reach out to applicants if further clarification or additional information is

needed on submitted grant applications.


ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATION

Read through the following. You are eligible for a relief grant if the following is true for you:


1. You are an artist or history professional, 18 years of age or older, who has experienced or

will experience lost income due to COVID-19, such as anticipated sales in shops and galleries that

had to temporarily or permanently close, canceled programs, or lectures, etc.:

• anticipated sales/participation/performances at summer or art shows that

have been canceled or postponed

• anticipated sales/participation/performances at or other programs and

events that have been canceled or postponed,

• canceled or postponed music/theater/literary performances, presentations,

productions, and tours

• canceled or delayed arts/cultural/history teaching opportunities, including

classes, camps, and workshops

• canceled or postponed artist-in-residencies

• inability to attend an income-generating event/performance/art

show/cultural or history program, etc.,because of personal actual or

potential COVID-19 impacts

• lost income-generating art, history, or cultural programmatic opportunities not listed above

2. You are a New Jersey resident who has been living for the past six months within the

eight-county region of South Jersey (Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Camden,

Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, Salem)


Note: This grant will prioritize grant awards to artists and history professionals from

historically excluded and oppressed communities, specifically, those who self-identify as

Black, LatinX, Asian Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color, LGBTQ+, or a

Person with a Disability.


3. You have evidence of your marketable presence as an artist or history professional. This

could include one or moreof the following:

• The website link (yours or another where your work appears)

• Social media presence

• Etsy page or another marketing platform

• Names of 1-3 income-generating events you have attended within the last two

years and visual/audio evidence of your work as an artist or history professional.

4. You are not an SJCA Staff, Board, or grant review panel member's immediate family

member. (Immediate family is defined as spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, child's

spouse, brother, brother's spouse, sister, or sister's spouse)


Note that submission of an application signifies that you are in compliance with all the eligibility criteria stated above

and are in agreement with the following statement:


"I am responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules,

regulations, and ordinances in relation to the use of these funds, and I certify that all the

information provided in this application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge."
